ELVIS
Bonus Photo,
LPM 1382.
This is the 2nd bonus photo produced by RCA and sent to certain record stores and distributors, possibly given in small amounts out to the public if you purchased the initial release of his 2nd album. It shows his then current RCA single releases listed on the back. These are extremely hard to find and
it is the 2nd earliest, and 2nd hardest to find, Elvis bonus photo.
These came out in very limited quantities, but over the last 17 years I've found this one more available than the very 1st bonus photo, the one for the LPM-1254. There are no other bonus photos for either of his 1st two albums, just the two in the small 3x5" format but they were not really used as bonus photos yet. This was a brand new type of promotion for RCA to do back in 1956 with records stores, but Elvis' popularity potential had them creating and initiating new promotional ideas.
They are the only 2 Elvis marketing photos that exist in this small size and with print on reverse side listing catalog #'s of his then current releases and both came out in 1956. This is how RCA began their marketing of Elvis. The photos would grow in size to 8x10" and some were handed out in the late 50's and early 60's. Starting in his movie years in the mid 60's, 8x10" color photos were packaged directly inside each album with the "bonus" hype sticker.
This photo is authentic and was produced by Moss Photo Service in 1956. It will be almost exactly like the one in the photo.
Moss was the company that also produced the very sought after very early Elvis fan club photos and the King Creole bonus photo. I was fortunate about 15 years ago and purchased several of these from someone that inherited some from an old record store owner. The photo was exceptionally well stored and barely shows any wear. The surface shows minimal marks of any type. It may not be perfect, but very close with probably no scratches, scuffs or anything including fingerprint smudges (which is rather common). It retains all of the original gloss even though this is more of a flat (matte) finish paper on the front of the photo. The back is just as nice, only shows the aging of the white photocard used by Moss Co.
It actually measures about 3.5"x5.5". The only other bonus photo I know to be more valuable than this one is the totally ellusive 3x5" used to promote the LPM-1254.
What a find.. it's super nice with almost no blemishes!!!
