    Description

    For sale we have a 40 inch long carved reverse stencil that was used to print advertising for the ill-fated Milliken Bros. Modern Circus, which opened in April of 1934 by Jessie A. "Slim" Milliken in Woodstock, VA, with a leased elephant named "Maxine".  The circus traveled the East Coast for several months, but was forced to close after the 4th of July, as the Great Depression was causing very poor attendance.  This old stencil, which is carved in reverse is an attic find that measures 40 inches long, 6-1/8 inches wide, and 1 inch thick.  There is some damage to the wood from years of storage, but we would venture to say that it is the only one of its kind in existence.  Please email any and all questions before bidding or buying.  Buyer will pay the Actual Shipping Costs based on the Weight and Size of the package.  Thanks for Looking, and Good Luck!  DH 07/21/20.
